Today, Friday, May 2, 2025, the Indonesian people commemorate National Education Day (HARDIKNAS), to honor the birth of Ki Hadjar Dewantara. A pioneer of education in Indonesia and founder of the Taman Siswa educational institution.
He is known for opposing the education policy of the Dutch East Indies government at that time, which only allowed children born in the Netherlands or the rich to be able to attend school.
Then Ki Hadjar Dewantara founded Taman Siswa and was appointed as Minister of Education, after Indonesian Independence and his philosophy, “Tut Wuri Handayani”, was used as a motto in the world of Indonesian education.
National Education Day, although not a national holiday, is still widely celebrated in Indonesia with flag ceremonies at educational institutions.
To commemorate National Education Day on May 2, 2025, with the theme “Realizing Quality Education for All”
National Education Day on May 2, as a symbol of the importance of education in national development, must continue to be sown from generation to generation.
This commemoration is also an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the condition of education and fight for better quality education that is affordable for all levels of society
